Pembahasan:
Pada soal di atas meminta kita untuk memberikan makna dari suatu kalimat. Pada kalimat tersebut disebutkan “The man hit by a car yesterday would have died if the doctors had not immediately operated on him” yang memiliki arti “Pria yang ditabrak mobil kemarin pasti sudah meninggal jika dokter tidak segera mengoperasinya”.
Kalimat pada soal di atas merupakan penggunaan if clause tipe third conditional. Pola untuk kalimat third conditional, yaitu If + S + had + V3 + O, S + would have + V3 + O.
Kalimat tersebut merupakan kalimat pengandaian, sehingga fakta yang sebenarnya adalah “The man is still alive” yang memiliki arti “Pria itu masih hidup”.
